Motivational Strategies that Work for Employees...and Those That Do Not

Google defines motivational strategies as, "To develop motivated employees, a manager must treat people as individuals, empower workers, provide an effective reward system, redesign jobs, and create a flexible workplace".

Does this sound like the place you are now employed?  First of all, the word "individual" was rarely acknowledged in most of my employee related job fields.  The word "individual" by definition means:  "a single human being as distinct from a group, class, or family".  Is that how you are treated?  Are you being treated as an individual, a single human being?   I was not in many jobs.  I was most certainly just a number to several corporations that I worked for and was constantly reminded that I was very replaceable if I did not like the conditions I had to work under.

When writing about motivational strategies, I am sure there are businesses out there that do acknowledge this principle and treat each member as they would like to be treated if they were in their position.  Isn't that the way it should be?  Yes, employees must do what is asked of them, however, the definition of motivational strategies itself leads to other and better ways of dealing with the individual employee.

Some of us are single parents, some of us do not work well at night, some of us are older and do not want to work past 9pm.  Some of us would like a certain set schedule so as to create a life we can live with and still work at the company we are employed. Why can't we adapt and accommodate people and still run a business?

At one particular establishment I had to frequently close one evening working until 11pm or later on holidays then report back to work the next morning at 7am.  If I got out on time, at only 11pm, I would have just eight hours to drive home, eat, shower and get ready for bed, then have to wake up 5 and a half hours later to do it all over again.  These deplorable times seemed inhuman to me and reprehensible.  What if I still had young children to tend to?  Some of my co-workers did who had to endure the same types of closing and openings as described above.

We are all so different and these huge corporations that hire human beings and expect them to become inhuman robots are the ones that need the assistance.  They have lost the humanity part of living and only work for the bottom line aspect of the company.  It's all about money and not about people.  I have worked for such.  How about you?

Motivational Strategies that Work

I would like to inject and introduce a new and different way to motivate employees.  This particular inspiration has biblical references.  Why don't we, the we meaning people who own companies and hire employees, treat the humans we hire the way we would like to be treated if things were switched the other way.

Just about every boss has one time or another been someone else's employee.  Didn't they learn anything from that?  I think not.  I think that sometimes when people start making lots and lots of money they forget how it was for them at one point.  I have not forgotten and will not forget.

The "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you"  statement seems logical and applicable in all senses of life, especially adding in there, "Whatever is hurtful to you, do not do to any other person".  Why can't these conglomerate companies know this?  Why can't they use this?  What has happened?  Why can't we all use these exceptional motivational strategies and still make lots of money?

Motivational Strategies "Bottom Line"

The "bottom line" in these motivational strategies is that we have to get back to our original roots.  We have to remember where we came from and the struggle our ancestors endured to come to this great country.  We have to remember the inhuman way most of them were treated and learn from the past so as to improve and empower our future human race.  We have to treat others the way we would like to be treated and do no harm to anyone.  There is only One who will come to judge us all and in turn delegate the appropriate sanctions.

If I owned a company and wanted to motivate my employees, I would empower and raise them up to be the best they can be.  I would make them a special and significant part of my company and treat them the way I would treat myself.  I would treat them as the individual they are and adapt their job description to be flexible enough to accommodate the good and faithful employee.  Does this sound like a place you would want to work?

Motivational Strategies First-Rate

Let's design the perfect first-rate type of work environment that will provide motivational strategies to treat the individual human being and pick them up to higher levels of excellence in a flexible and adaptable business condition.

1.  When hiring for a particular position, make exceptions for that certain employee who just so happens to be a single parent or has to care for an elderly mother or father living in their home.

2.  Do not schedule employees below a 12 hour gap in time.  If someone has to close down your store, then that person does not come back to open it again.  There has to be some kind of human decency to allow all of us to get the required 7-8 hours of restful sleep each night.

3.  Pay your employees a livable wage.  Could you live on minimum wage?   Could you feed a family?  Everyone one of us no matter what educational level we are at deserve a livable and decent wage enough so to be able to care for our own children and elderly parents if need be.

4.  Treat your employees as you would want to be treated if the tables were turned.  We are all individuals with needs, feelings and thoughts.  If you treat your employees well you do not have to worry about your business because they will take care of it for you the way you take care of them.

Concluding these wonderful motivational strategies listed, I would like to add that all of us deserve to have to best life we can possibly attain.  Some of us are geared to be bosses and some will be employees.  Why not treat them like gold?  They in fact are gold since without them you would not have a company.  And if you treat them like a precious jewel they will treat you the same and grow your company bigger and higher than you ever thought possible.  Now we are all making lots of money!
